Climate journalism website The Carbon Current launches

An independent digital publication telling the stories shaping the region's climate future launched today.

The Carbon Current aims to trace climate science through human stories, bridging the gap between environmental reporting and the lived reality of communities across the Middle East and beyond.

“Climate journalism in the region has a problem: it doesn’t go deep enough,” said Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Rachel Redfern.

"We wanted to bring new narratives to life. We're not only reporting on what's actually happening here - the science, the innovation, the people pushing back, we’re exploring areas that aren’t getting the attention they deserve: regenerative farming, light pollution, fast fashion, and more. The Carbon Current will give a voice to global and regional stories."

Topics featured on the site span the addax breeding programme at Dubai Safari Park, desertification across the Global South, and the ‘landscape to table’ movement reshaping food systems in the Gulf, with sections including Features (interviews and essays), Big Voices (op-eds and think pieces), and The Climate Whine (a sharp takes on how the climate crisis is changing the way we eat and drink).
