Semafor has appointed Ed Clowes as Gulf News Editor to elevate regional coverage and spearhead Semafor Gulf's expansion into a daily product.

The Gulf edition launched in September 2024 featuring original reporting and a thrice-weekly newsletter, which will increase to five issues per week this summer.

Clowes, who is based in London, led Sky News’ Middle East Business Report for the past five years and was previously based in Dubai, where he worked for Gulf News, Reuters and MEED.

“Semafor is unmatched in making sense of regional developments to decision makers and businesspeople around the world who demand high quality news and analysis,” he said.

“I have been a subscriber and admirer of the product since they launched, and now I know why: the attitude of the team here is amazing. As someone covering business news in the Middle East, I have drawn heavily on their work, and it is a real pleasure to now be joining this group of ambitious journalists.”
